With a wonderful homage to Dolly Patron at the 2022 Academy of Country Music Awards on Monday, March 7, Kelly Clarkson once again proved that she is the queen of covers.

The American Idol alum performed a cover of Dolly Parton’s 1973 hit “I Will Always Love You” at the ceremony, a classic that was later immortalized by Whitney Houston in her own cover for the 1992 film The Bodyguard.

With an acoustic guitar and piano backdrop, the Kelly Clarkson Show host played the song to a standing ovation from celebrities and fans alike.

Parton was particularly moved by the performance and embraced Clarkson onstage, demonstrating how much affection the two country icons share.

Along with country singers Jimmie Allen and Gabby Barrett, the 9 to 5 singers presented the show.

While this tribute to Parton was spectacular, it wasn’t surprising given Clarkson’s announcement on her show a month prior that a special number for the 2022 ACM Awards was in the works.
