Will Richey, a prominent restaurateur in Charlottesville, died in a car crash in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The crash occurred near the 1300 block of Owensville Road west of Charlottesville, and evidence at the scene provides some clues.

The crash site is less than a mile and a half north of Richey’s popular restaurant, Duner’s. Skid marks indicate that the vehicle was traveling in the direction of Richey’s residence near the Rivanna Reservoir. The vehicle’s right side then passed over the road’s white sideline and into a ditch, destroying three mailboxes and a sign warning of an impending turn.

A set of yaw marks suggests that the vehicle then came out of the ditch and crossed the centerline before being halted by an earthen embankment on the opposite side. Richey, a father of two, founded and owned multiple restaurants in the Charlottesville area, many through Ten Course Hospitality. All of Ten Course’s restaurants will be closed in his honor on Tuesday.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the deceased’s family and friends, who have been struggling with the loss of such an intelligent and compassionate individual.
