Colin Rossiter died from suicide in Staten Island ll, NYPD officer

A former star defenseman for the Monsignor Farrell Hockey Team and a well-known player in the Staten Island hockey community, Rossiter, a member of the Farrell class of 2018, was described as a good teammate who was always upbeat, friendly and well-liked.

“I enjoyed coaching him,” former Monsignor Farrell hockey coach Chris Schuler told the Advance/SILive.com. “He was a lot of fun to be around.”

Schuler said that he last saw Rossiter about a year ago when the young man was an employee at a Staten Island-based Lowe’s home improvement store before joining the NYPD. Schuler described him as “very upbeat” and “very helpful with a big smile.”

“The passing of Police Officer Colin Rossiter has devastated the Monsignor Farrell High School community,” said President Lou Tobacco of Farrell.

“Colin truly embodied our motto of Vir Fidelis, Faithful Man. While a student at Monsignor Farrell, Colin always went out of his way to help his fellow students, as well as faculty members,” Tobacco said.

Rossiter was assigned to the 60th Precinct in Brooklyn and was appointed to the NYPD in 2021, sources said.

According to sources, Rossiter was one of the officers involved in the fatal shooting of Jermaine Hickson, 42, during a domestic-violence incident in Coney Island in November of 2022.

“The loss of our brother is both heartbreaking and infuriating,” said Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch. “New York City police officers are under incredible stress: Not just the stress of the job, but stress from The Job. Our city and NYPD leaders already know what they need to change. The heartbreak won’t stop until they do.”
