The life of a teenage missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was tragically taken in a road accident in Brazil.

Sam Penrod, a Church spokesman, said that Elder Izaak Orion Card, 20, of Anchorage, Alaska, perished in an accident on Friday, May 26, 2023, in a remote area close to the city of Tibagi, Brazil.

According to Penrod in a Church statement, “four missionaries were on a bus in the early evening when it was struck by a semitruck.” The other missionaries, who weren’t seriously hurt, are being cared for.

Since October 2022, Elder Card has been working as a full-time missionary in the Brazil Curitiba Mission.

“We send our love to Elder Card’s family and friends as well as the missionaries and members in the Brazil Curitiba Mission,” stated Penrod. We pray that everyone will experience comfort and serenity as they remember this devoted missionary and honor his Christlike service.
