Gideon Macon Shot, Killed by Davidson Co. deputies

A guy who was shot and killed by deputies following a shooting in Davidson County has been named by law officials.

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Wednesday night at about 9:08 p.m., a 911 caller reported seeing shots fired on M&H Drive.

According to deputies, Gideon Mason, 59, fired into the house and struck someone within. Mason then opened fire on deputies as they arrived on the site.

After being hit, a deputy was brought to the hospital.

Mason kept firing at law officers throughout the night while “changing locations” many times.

Mason was shot and murdered following many hours of “negotiations and containment.”

Mason allegedly fired 200 rounds at law enforcement, severely damaging a lot of their tools, according to Davidson County Sheriff Richie Simmons.

Sheriff Simmons “would like to thank all agencies that were involved” for their aid and stated that both the deputy and the initial shooting victim are making a full recovery. Among them were the Denton Police Department, the State Highway Patrol, the Lexington Police Department, the Thomasville Police Department, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, the SBI, and the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office.

The SBI is looking into the shooting of Mason.
