His group placed fifth in the prestigious competition; they were the third entry in the ESC.
Williams was formerly a member of the Poll group. The fact that he was not Greek at birth created difficulty in 1978.
Greek entry into the ESC was to be chosen by an internal jury. Robert’s original song “Na kseris s’agapo” and Anna Vissi’s song “Kyrios Nobel” were tied for first place at the end of the voting.
The singer prevailed in the second round of voting. However, the ERT later discovered that his songs were not written by a Greek musician, which the TV station rejected.
