Haley Lu Richardson was born on March 7, 1995 in Phoenix, Arizona, U.S.. She had performed in theatrical productions and regional dance competitions during her earlier years. She was a leading dancer in the Cannedy Dance Company in Phoenix from 2001 to 2011. Shortly after, she moved to Los Angeles.

She made her screen debut in 2012, appearing in an episode of the TV series Up in Arms and on the TV movie Christmas Twister. She then landed a recurring role, playing Tess Hamilton on Ravenswood. In 2014, she made her feature film debut in The Last Survivors. The following year, she starred as Maggie Townsend on The Bronze. She recently starred as Krista in the coming-of-age film The Edge of Seventeen.
