A kid was killed in an automobile accident involving two vehicles on Friday night about 10:30 p.m. in Union County.
The Iowa State Patrol reports that 19-year-old Halsie Lynn Barnes of Tingley was pronounced dead at the site of the collision due to injuries sustained.
East of Afton on US-34 and 190th Street, Halsie was a passenger in a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu that was hit by a 2016 Ford F-350 pickup.

Madalynn Mae Stewart, 19, of Maloy, failed to stop at the stop sign on 190th Street, causing an accident with a truck driven by Andy David Merritt, 59, of Seymour as they approached the intersection from the east on Highway 34. The automobile was hit on the driver’s side as it entered Highway 34. In the north ditch, both cars stopped.
Abigail Dawn Barnes, 20, from Lamoni, and Ella Jo Leonard, 19, from Winterset, were both in the car with Stewart when it crashed, injuring both of them. Stewart was transported to Des Moines’ Mercy Hospital by helicopter. Abigail was taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital. Andy and Julia Ann Merritt, both 62 and from Seymour, were wounded and taken home by a relative.
No one in the car was wearing a seat belt, including Halsie Barnes, Madalynn Stewart, Abigail Barnes, Ella Leonard, or Andy Merritt. Union and Clarke County Emergency Medical Services also provided assistance to the patrol.
