A cadet in Georgia’s State Trooper training program has died following a drill, authorities say.

A news release from the Georgia Department of Public Safety states that cadet trooper Patrick Dupree collapsed after completing an exercise on September 8.

The exercise took place at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth.

While on-site medical personnel did their best to save Dupree’s life, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries while route to the hospital.

According to a Facebook post from the City of Euharlee, Dupree worked as a police officer with the department from 2015 until 2021.

The message board entry says,

“He was dedicated to this community and made a lasting impression on Euharlee.” Dupree was a father and husband, according to a tweet from Governor Brian Kemp, but no more information about him has been released. We will never forget his dedication to serving his fellow Georgians and protecting them,” Kemp stated.

Phyllis Dodson, Dupree’s aunt, wrote on Facebook that her nephew

“was a kind person and was loved by everyone” after learning of his death. My heart has been shattered into a million pieces. Please say a prayer for me, Dodson pleaded. This is very sad.
