Van Dyke has struggled with alcoholism in the past but he is currently sober.

In April of 2013, he revealed that he felt a pounding pain in his head anytime he lies down. Several tests however have failed to lead to any diagnoses.

Desperate for answers, the actor took to Twitter back then to ask if anyone had any ideas as to the cause of his headaches.

Later that year in May, he tweeted that it was possible the titanium dental implants he had gotten could be responsible.

Later that same year, on August 19, Van dyke had to be rescued from his Jaguar by a passer-by when the car caught fire. He was unharmed although the car burnt to the frame.

The 96-year-old Van Dyke is in a remarkable state of fitness. In 2021 he invited a tv crew to his home and showed them his daily exercise routine which included multiple sit-ups.

He said then that, the core and most important part of the body was the stomach claiming that if the stomach was in good shape then the rest of the body would be strong.
