Jonathan Dowie of Des Moines died by suicide,

Jonathan Dowie of Des Moines, Iowa, has sadly passed away unexpectedly in a car accident with loved ones, family and the entire community left heartbroken and in grievance.

He was the team captain for the baseball team that won the Greater Newark Tournament in 1943, and he also played shortstop for the club.

In that year, the tournament was held in Newark. As a result of his achievements in the sport of baseball, he was selected for induction into the Kearny High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Soon after he graduated from Kearny High School in January 1944, he enlisted in the United States Army, which at the time was in the thick of battle in World War II.

He served in the army until the end of the war.

He was an infantryman who served with the 163rd Regimental Combat Team of the 41st Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater of Operations during the war.
