An residence in Scranton, Pennsylvania, was searched after a body was discovered under a tarp.

The deceased was identified as 52-year-old Nicholas Martin by Lackawant to County Coroner Timothy Rowland.

As the investigation by the Scranton Police Department continues, the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.

The affidavit states that on February 3, officers were made aware that a guy in the 800 block of Capouse Avenue had a dead corpse in his apartment.

When police entered the house to execute the search warrant, they discovered a number of items consistent with methamphetamine use, including syringes and plastic baggies. Officers also detected a rotting corpse odor.

Court filings state that when police lifted a tarp off the ground, they discovered Martin’s body. According to Rowland’s office, the decaying process took between two and three weeks.

Paul Rowe, 44, from Scranton, was detained as a result. Rowe has been charged with drug paraphernalia possession and mistreatment of a body.
