Nyzireya Moore was shot on Tuesday night while out in West Englewood celebrating her birthday with family has passed away.

According to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, the girl, Nyzireya Moore, was pronounced dead late Friday morning at Comer Children’s Hospital.

According to authorities, the child was in a moving vehicle when a person on the street opened fire in the 2300 block of West 72nd Street, about a block from her home. She received a head injury to the back and was taken to the hospital.

13 children under the age of 17 have been shot and killed in Chicago so far this year, including Nyzireya.

Andrew Holmes, a local activist, stated on Friday that the parents had been “hoping and looking for a miracle.”
