Obituary | Mike Essery Burial and Funeral, Baseball, Haverford High School Coach

Sadly, our beloved son Mike Essery went suddenly in Victoria at the young age of 56, leaving behind a family and a world that might have used his talents and experiences. Michael leaves behind his beloved uncle Alfred, his parents Linda and Tom, his brother Tom Jr. (Rachel), his nephews Mark and Austin, his niece Linda Ana, and his longtime companion Rhonda. Rhonda, Michael’s longtime companion, also lives on. His numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins adored his lovely, infectious charisma and his clever, humorous, and kind nature, and they will miss him terribly.

Essery’s early fascination with aeronautics and flight was evident even as a toddler. A private pilot’s license was something he could get at the tender age of sixteen. Working as a “ramp rat” for Air West in the inner harbor when he was just 13 years old, he eventually rose through the ranks to become a ground manager for Air BC in Victoria, Prince George, Calgary, and Edmonton. Air West was his first employer. His sense of humor and ability to bring people together were highly regarded by his peers, and he had a large number of adoring fans among his friends and employees.

Michael’s time spent with the British Columbia Emergency Health Services is the highlight of his career and a source of great pride for him because of the recognition he received for his dedication and leadership there. His previous position was that of Director of Aviation Provincial Programs. Dearest son, you will be sorely missed by your family. I hope you find the solace you need. Information on a memorial service to pay respects to the departed will be released at a later date. Michael’s loved ones would be very appreciative of memorial contributions to the SPCA or the Wild Arc Foundation.
