Roman Mikirtichev Died in Motorcycle Crash in Maspeth, Queens

Tragic Motorcycle Crashes Claim Lives in NYC: Details Unveiled

In a series of devastating incidents, New York City witnessed multiple fatal motorcycle crashes, leaving families shattered and communities mourning. These heart-wrenching tragedies serve as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety.

The first incident occurred on Thursday, Aug. 3, in Maspeth, Queens. A 19-year-old named Roman Mikirtichev, a resident of Woodhaven Boulevard in Middle Village, lost his life after a motorcycle crash. Mikirtichev was operating a Suzuki motorcycle on 64th Street in Maspeth, close to the junction with 58th Road. Shortly before midnight, tragedy struck as he reportedly lost control of his motorcycle. The bike collided with a Nissan SUV, driven by a 58-year-old man, who remained at the scene. Mikirtichev was thrown off his motorcycle, which subsequently collided with a parked vehicle. He was found unconscious and severely injured. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital.

In Harlem that same evening, a tragic hit-and-run event involved another motorbike. A grey BMW slammed into a 42-year-old man who was riding a Honda motorcycle on the Henry Hudson Parkway near West 145th Street. He was thrown onto the highway by the impact, where he was hit by a black Mercedes that was also traveling at a high pace. Tragically, both the Mercedes and the BMW sped away. At Harlem Hospital, the biker was pronounced dead after succumbing to his wounds. The parties concerned have not revealed their identities.

As the weekend wore on, more lives were lost; on Saturday in the Bronx, a 35-year-old biker was killed in an accident. The driver of a Husqvarna motorcycle crashed into a Nissan SUV on Mount Eden’s Jerome Avenue. The Nissan driver, a 58-year-old woman attempting a U-turn near Goble Place, was also involved in the crash. The motorcyclist was ejected from his bike and tragically passed away from severe traumatic injuries at the scene.

These accidents highlight the importance of responsible driving and road safety knowledge. While the number of traffic fatalities in New York City as a whole has declined by 12.7% from the previous year, Queens continues to be an outlier, with collision-related deaths expected to increase by over 40% by 2023. The city laments the loss of these lives and implores everyone to put road safety first.

The NYPD is requesting assistance from the public as these incidents’ investigations continue. The tragic results of these collisions serve as a solemn reminder of the value of cautious driving and observing traffic regulations.
